raw like an oyster or sore
throat, or the first snowdrop
clump showing past mud-matted

winter melts, I sit outside
Fantastico's and write two poems, one
to my husband and the other

to my lover, prying
for words, trying wrenching
combinations, hot cup balanced

on my left knee and temptation
on the table
